Paws In Peace offers the gentle aftercare option of cremation in water - also known as ‘alkaline hydrolysis’, which is an environmentally conscious alternative to traditional flame cremation.
Using a warm solution of water and natural alkali, this process carefully returns the body to its most basic elements — much like what occurs naturally in the earth over time, but in a carefully controlled and respectful setting.
The process takes place in a specialised stainless steel vessel where warmth, water, and gentle circulation work together to accelerate natural decomposition. There is no direct flame, no smoke/emissions, and minimal environmental impact. At the end, only the mineral remains of bone are left. These are dried and softly processed into a fine, pale ash, very similar in appearance to traditional flame cremated remains, which are returned to the family.
Water cremation uses significantly less energy than flame cremation and produces no airborne emissions, making it a thoughtful choice for those who wish to minimise their environmental footprint - honouring life while treading lightly on the earth.
When cremation is chosen, your pet is transported and cared for by Dr Lou with dignity and respect.
